My Mother and Me!
Please Note: Programs are open to girls and adult female mentors including mothers, grandmothers, aunts, older sisters, foster mothers, and mentors.

Are you astonished to find your daughter growing up into a unique and amazing young woman? Has your daughter perfected the art of eye-rolling? Are you worried about the challenges your daughter may face as she enters the middle school years and beyond? Are you craving quality time with your daughter in the midst of busy schedules? My Mother and Me! weaves together collage-making, games, and thought-provoking discussion in a safe, caring, playful environment. With laughter and fun, we spend the afternoon honoring your unique relationship; building community with other mothers; and looking at the dichotomy of girls wanting independence but needing support, limits and guidance. You’ll leave the experience with powerful communication skills and a discovery of inner strengths and resources to help you and your daughter navigate the teenage years successfully.

My mother and me! can be easily adapted to fit a variety of situations. Here are some ideas:

  • My Mother And Me: 4th-8th Grades As described above, addresses the journey your daughter will face as she enters the middle school years and beyond.
  • My mother and me: High School For 9th and 10th grade girls and their mothers. The focus is shifted slightly to reflect some of the tough issues high school girls face and to offer communication strategies specific to this age.
  • My mother and me: At home Perfect for mother/mentor and daughter book groups, Girl Scout troops and for unusual but memorable birthday parties.
  • My mother and me: private sessions A unique way to explore the mother/daughter relationship in greater depth and to work more specifically on strengthening your relationship and successfully navigating difficult situations.
  • Grandma and Me What was it like to be a teenage girl? How were you encouraged or discouraged? Who did you have a crush on? A program for grandmothers and granddaughters with an emphasis on learning about and honoring the past.
  • Mentor and Me A unique way to facilitate bonding between a mentor and mentee—all while having a fantastic time.

Mother/Daughter Scavenger hunt

Please Note: Programs are open to girls and adult female mentors including mothers, grandmothers, aunts, older sisters, foster mothers, and mentors.

After a tea party in a local restaurant with a group of mothers and daughters, you’ll venture out with your daughter into a neighborhood, camera in tow! You’ll have 90 minutes to find, do and experience the items on the scavenger hunt list. These range from taking a photo of each of you wearing the silliest hat you can find, to interviewing a woman business owner. In addition to being a fun way to spend quality time with your daughter, the hunt is designed to initiate meaningful dialog on issues relevant to girls. Prizes will be awarded and we’ll end the day by sharing some of the unique things we’ve learned about being a woman.
